Against the New Logical Argument from Evil

چکیده

Jim Sterba’s Is a Good God Logically Possible? looks to resurrect J. L. Mackie’s logical argument from evil. Sterba accepts the general framework that theists seeking give theodicy have favored since Leibniz invented term: search for some greater good provided or evil averted would justify in permitting type and variety of we actually observe. However, introduces deontic twist, drawing on Pauline Principle (let us not do may come) introduce three side constraints God’s choice action. He then splits possible goods into four categories: first- vs. second-order goods, which right, right. argues his rule out each combination, thereby showing no God-justifying is offer. To defuse argument, I draw pair ideas Marilyn McCord Adams: (i) outside bounds morality, (ii) can defeat evils by incorporating them an incommensurately valuable friendship with human. Properly appreciated, these show new relies false premise easily repaired.

Against simulation: the argument from error.

According to Simulation Theory, to understand what is going on in another person's mind, the observer uses his or her own mind as a model of the other mind. Recently, philosophers and cognitive neuroscientists have proposed that mirror neurones (which fire in response to both executing and observing a goal directed action) provide a plausible neural substrate for simulation, a mechanism for dir...

A new branch of the logical algebra: UP-algebras

In this paper, we introduce a new algebraic structure, called a UP-algebra (UP means the University of Phayao) and a concept of UP-ideals, UP-subalgebras, congruences and UP-homomorphisms in UP-algebras, and investigated some related properties of them. We also describe connections between UP-ideals, UP-subalgebras, congruences and UP-homomorphisms, and show that the notion of UP-algebras is a ...

Against the Vagueness Argument

In this paper I offer a counterexample to the so called vagueness argument against restricted composition. This will be done in the lines of a recent suggestion by Trenton Merricks, namely by challenging the claim that there cannot be a sharp cut-off point in a composition sequence. It will be suggested that causal powers which emerge when composition occurs can serve as an indicator of such sh...
